How We Design Clothing for Sensitive Skin

Research Informed Design

At Skinakin, our approach to design is informed by research, professional insight, and the lived experiences of families managing sensitive or eczema-prone skin.

We recognise that disrupted sleep and discomfort are common challenges for children with eczema, and that everyday factors, including clothing, can influence how a child feels throughout the day and night. Our focus is not on medical treatment, but on designing garments that feel comfortable, gentle, and practical for daily wear.

Design Guided by Evidence

Our product development is guided by established research into skin sensitivity, textile behaviour, and garment construction. This includes careful consideration of fabric breathability, seam placement, labelling, and overall fit.

Rather than making clinical claims, we focus on designing clothing that aligns with widely accepted principles for sensitive skin, supporting comfort as part of a child’s normal routine.

Development, Testing, and Recognition

Skinakin’s development has been supported by independent innovation funding and structured design research.

In 2021, Skinakin received support from Innovate UK, enabling us to explore materials, garment construction, and wearer feedback through extended design and testing phases. This process involved working closely with families, gathering qualitative feedback, and refining designs based on real-world use.

Our work has since been recognised with innovation awards from regional and national bodies, reflecting our commitment to thoughtful, research-informed product design.

Designed with Families in Mind

Throughout development, we prioritise listening to parents and children who live with sensitive skin every day. Their insights shape how our clothing feels, moves, and fits into real routines.

Skinakin is not a medical product. It is clothing designed with care, informed by research, and created to feel comfortable and reassuring for families navigating sensitive skin:

  • Developed through structured design research and wearer feedback

  • Soft, breathable, hypoallergenic materials selected for sensitive skin

  • Thoughtful construction, including seam placement and fabric choice

  • Recognised for innovation in eczema-friendly clothing design

Skinakin is not a medical product, and our clothing is not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure eczema.

Our focus is on thoughtful design, informed by research and lived experience, to create garments that feel comfortable, gentle, and practical for children with sensitive or eczema-prone skin.
